This exceptionally rare and captivating 2026 work is a double-sided (recto/verso) masterpiece by the highly sought-after British contemporary artist Harry Charles Tim. The primary painting, entitled ‘Pony Tail Jess’, is an important and beautifully resolved inclusion in the artist’s definitive 'Longhead' series.
True to the thematic core of the 'Longhead' series, 'Pony Tail Jess' utilises a striking, stylised elongation of the head and neck, a sophisticated contemporary dialogue with Modigliani’s anatomical modernism and post-war European Expressionism. Rendered in acrylic on board, the subject is set against a deep, dramatic black void. Tim’s masterful use of a restricted, high-contrast palette illuminates the face with a patchwork of rich ochres, sulfurous yellows, and gestural skin tones, beautifully anchored by a sharp, graphic jawline and a brilliant shock of crimson on the lips.
The Verso: ‘The Tax Man’
In a brilliant and satirical turn, turning the board reveals an entirely separate, fully realised painting on the reverse, affectionately and traditionally known as ‘The Tax Man’. This hidden portrait introduces a wonderful touch of dark British humor to the piece. Executed with a more frantic, angular, and imposing geometry, it captures the stern, bureaucratic essence of its title, providing a magnificent thematic foil to the serene, elegant lines of Jess on the front.

"Double-sided paintings are always an absolute thrill for collectors, but this particular piece is an outright triumph. On the front, you have 'Pony Tail Jess' a stunningly elegant, benchmark example of his 'Longhead' series that showcases Tim's incredible command over modern avant-garde portraiture. But it’s the reverse that gives this piece its true cult status. The depiction of 'The Tax Man' adds this marvelous, tongue-in-cheek narrative that feels so inherently tied to the eccentric traditions of British studio art. It's essentially two masterpieces for the price of one.
As a newly completed 2026 work fresh from its London exhibition debut, this double-sided painting is in immaculate, gallery condition. Both the recto (Pony Tail Jess) and verso (The Tax Man) acrylic paint layers are entirely stable, pristine, and beautifully preserved, retaining all original heavy impasto textures and crisp graphic edges exactly as executed in the studio. The bespoke double-sided presentation frame is structurally flawless and showroom-ready.
