An elegant 19th-century Colbot ceramic oil lamp, later converted to electricity, beautifully combining period craftsmanship with modern practicality.
The body is made of richly glazed deep cobalt blue ceramic, a color highly prized throughout the 19th century for its association with refinement and luxury. The waisted form gives the lamp graceful proportions. It sits on a gilded brass base with a raised, embossed foliate band running around the plinth. The upper mount features fine beaded and stepped detailing in brass, echoing the neoclassical influences popular in late 19th-century decorative arts.
Originally produced in the late 19th century, this lamp reflects the period when Colbot ceramics gained recognition for their striking glazes and elegant shapes. Oil lamps of this type were a staple in well-appointed Victorian homes, and many were later adapted for electric use as households modernised.
