Églomisé (or Verre Églomisé) is a decorative technique in which gold leaf, silver leaf or painted decoration is applied to the reverse side of glass, creating richly reflective designs protected beneath the surface. Named after the eighteenth-century French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy, the technique has been used on mirrors, furniture, picture frames, signs and decorative panels since the Renaissance. Antique églomisé pieces are highly prized for their elegance, craftsmanship and luminous appearance. *Related Terms*\ Églomisé Glass, Gilding, Mirror Glass, Reverse Glass Painting, Verre Églomisé, Water Gilding.
