“Ammie” – A Masterful Modernist Portrait from the Longhead Series by Harry Charles Tim

I’m thrilled to be showcasing and selling the work of Harry Charles Tim to collectors around the world through my website and various international platforms. His artwork is instantly eye-catching—bold, modernist, and unmistakably his own. I’ve been especially excited to offer pieces from his acclaimed Longhead Series, one of his most sought-after bodies of work.

I’ve been lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with Harry, where he shares insights into his creative process, the inspiration behind his striking paintings, and the evolution of his unique artistic voice.

Harry Charles Tims words:

"I am deeply grateful that my work resonates with people - it truly means the world to me. Speaking about my paintings has never come easily;  I've always felt that the artwork should do the talking. My paintings are simply the most honest way I know how to express myself. I am very humble that my paintings can bring happiness to people. I want people to buy my paintings because they like them, not because of where it is from or what has been said. I simply love painting, it is my life.
My path to becoming an artist was not something I ever planned. I was born in 1956. Though I always loved drawing at school, it had to go on the back burner as life dictated at 16, I went into a different world: the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
My time in the Army brought mental challenges for me. During service, to relax, I would doodle small sketches of events that had recently taken place, and my comrades would nick them, which I took as compliment and basically it all started from there.
After leaving the Army , I remained in Germany,  for many years, until returning to the UK around 2000.  During those years in Germany, I learnt a love for Antiquities, and I developed a deep appreciation for craftmanship and history. Visiting small and major galleries across Europe, during my time off, it relaxed me, and gave me the incentive to paint, rather than doodle. I loved to get to know particular art movements, and certain artists.
My approach to art is simple and instinctive. I begin a painting when an image or feeling takes hold of me -it's whatever happens to be in my mind at that time. I don't paint for decoration. I paint and at the same times it removes anxiety for me.
When I start a painting, I simply begin, and I keep going, until the piece feels right. There can be many layers of paint on some of my paintings, as I continue until I'm satisfied.  Paintings on top of paintings. I write/paint a story/feeling I have, want to express, then I keep on painting.  There is no science to it. Some of my paintings will have a darker painting underneath, big eyes and screaming faces, and then I suppose, I paint to a brighter happier place.

Art | Head Mistress — Masterful Modernist Painting by Harry Charles Tim (Framed & Signed)

I usually name my paintings after they are finished - the title can complete the painting. The title can bring it to life. Paintings such as Agata or Head Mistress are not after specific people I know. Sometimes, though, they're inspired by real people who have made a lasting impression on me, for example Jill, Val.

Painting will be a lifelong love/companion.  Slowly  and cautiously, I'm becoming excited about how my paintings are being received.
My journey through life has been full of unexpected turns, but the canvas has become my home. To everyone who supports and appreciates what I do - thank you. This quiet process means everything to me
