Additional Information
A Grand Scale Academic Study of a Classical Greek Figure

This impressive 19th-century pencil drawing is a superb example of the Neoclassical tradition. Executed on a grand scale, the work focuses on a Classical Greek figure, rendered with a soft, tonal precision that suggests the artist was working from a marble / plaster cast.

The absence of a signature is characteristic of an Academic "Concours" or Studio Study, where the focus was entirely on the purity of the line and the anatomical accuracy rather than the artist's ego. The drawing captures the serene, stoic grace that defined the Greek Ideal—focusing on the balance of proportions and the subtle play of light across the musculature.

Condition Report

The graphite remains crisp with no significant smudging. The artist has used a range of pencil grades to create depth, which has been well-preserved.

The paper is in very good condition for its age and size. The is a crease visable in the centre of the page.

Newly framed and mounted using acid-free materials. The work is ready for immediate installation.
