A serene fragment of a Buddha head, modelled in stucco with calm, meditative features. The face is finely composed, with gently arched brows over downcast eyes, a straight nose, and softly smiling lips exuding tranquillity. The hair is rendered as tight coiled curls, surmounted by the ushnisha — a symbol of enlightenment — with elongated earlobes recalling the Buddha’s princely origins.
Though the precise age of this fragment is unknown, the work clearly reflects a long tradition of Buddhist devotional sculpture produced across Southeast Asia, where such heads would have originally formed part of a larger figure enshrined within a temple or monastery setting.
The surface shows pleasing signs of wear and weathering, with mineral accretions and small losses consistent with antiquity and long veneration. The overall effect is one of timeless serenity, the softened contours enhancing its contemplative character.
Good antique condition.
