A charming and finely cast pair of 19th century French candelabra, executed in rich patinated bronze and exquisite gilt ormolu, depicting playful cherubs (putti) poised upon scrolling acanthus bases.
Each figure is beautifully modelled with naturalistic movement and classical poise, standing aloft on finely chased gilt bases, their arms outstretched to support twin foliate candle nozzles. The ormolu elements are crisply cast and retain a warm, lustrous gilding, contrasting elegantly with the deep, mellow patination of the bronze figures.
The design draws upon the enduring neoclassical fascination with mythology and antiquity, with the putti symbolising love and innocence, while the vine and foliate motifs evoke Bacchic abundance and celebration.
Of particularly appealing scale, these candelabra are both decorative and versatile—ideal for a mantelpiece, console, or intimate dining setting. Their sculptural quality ensures they read equally well as objets d’art when not in use.
A delightful and highly decorative pair, combining fine casting, classical inspiration, and enduring charm.
