A finely carved table lamp in the classical manner, modelled after a Corinthian column with crisp fluted shaft, foliate collar and a bold octagonal base. The timber, likely oak given the warm honeyed tone and presence of a visible knot detail, offers both strength and a pleasing grain. Such natural knots are characteristic of native English and European oak, where the timber’s organic irregularities provide a charming authenticity and hint at the age of the wood.

This lamp reflects the enduring fascination with the architecture of antiquity, its Corinthian capital enriched with acanthus leaves in faithful homage to the great orders of classical design. Early 20th century—circa 1920—it represents the period taste for neoclassical revival furnishings, marrying utility with architectural grandeur.
The carved detail remains crisp, the patination rich, and the lamp retains an appealing surface with evidence of time and use, consistent with its age. An excellent example for collectors of neoclassical decorative arts, or indeed anyone seeking a practical object imbued with historical resonance.
Very good condition
The lamp has been fully rewired to UK standards using quality UK fittings and has passed a PAT (Portable Appliance Test) for electrical safety. It is in safe working order and ready for immediate use.
