Additional Information
Antique Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Table Lamp with Ornate Bronze Base

A beautifully preserved antique Chinese blue and white porcelain table lamp, originally made as an oil lamp and later thoughtfully converted for electric use. This lamp features an elegant baluster-shaped porcelain body, hand-painted with a traditional floral and foliate design, encircled by a classic scrolling border—hallmarks of Chinese ceramic artistry.

The lamp is mounted on a finely cast oriental-style bronze base, showcasing intricate detailing that complements the delicacy of the porcelain above. Together, they form a harmonious blend of fine ceramic and metalwork, typical of 19th to early 20th-century Chinese export pieces made for Western markets.

Chinese blue and white porcelain has been highly prized around the world since the Yuan Dynasty (1279–1368), reaching the height of international acclaim during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Cobalt blue decoration on a white glazed body became symbolic of elegance and technical mastery, with pieces widely exported and imitated across Europe and the Middle East.

Oil lamps like this were often made for both domestic and export use during the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th to early 20th century). Many were later converted into electric table lamps in the mid-20th century, particularly during the Art Deco and post-war periods when Asian decorative arts experienced a resurgence in Western interior design.
