A fine and elegant pair of French white opaline glass table lamps, beautifully modelled in the classical Médicis vase form. Each lamp is mounted with finely cast gilt brass mounts, the circular bases dressed with a rope-twist border above a turned mahogany plinth. The Médicis vase shape, derived from the celebrated marble urn housed in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, was a favourite motif of French designers during the 19th century, symbolising both classical elegance and the revival of antiquity. White opaline glass—highly prized in the Second Empire and Belle Époque—was produced in France from the 1820s onwards and became particularly fashionable for luxurious decorative objects, often mounted in gilt bronze and retailed by the leading Parisian maisons.
This pair has been sympathetically converted to electricity with new brass fittings and period-style cord, making them ready for use. Their restrained neoclassical silhouette and luminous opaline bodies ensure they sit comfortably in both traditional and modern interiors.
Condition Report
This pair of lamps is presented in excellent condition. The opaline glass bodies are free from chips or cracks, with the gilt brass mounts showing only the most minimal age-related wear consistent with careful use. The lamps have been fully rewired and PAT tested to current UK standards, using high-quality British-made components, ensuring both safety and reliability.

The full assessment can include general upkeep and updating – Fitting new lamp holders, deep cleaning, minor repairs and replacement of fragile metal pins are all part of our service. Rewiring includes a standard rewire to conform with UK electrical regulations to an adaptation or conversion
