This outstanding Neo-Classical gilt bronze ormolu oil lamp is a true masterpiece of 19th-century decorative art. Designed with opulence and sophistication in mind, it features intricate detailing and a luxurious gilded finish, perfectly capturing the elegance of the Neo-Classical era. The bronze base is decorated on all four sides with distinct Greek-inspired designs, showcasing exceptional artistry.

The oil lamp is fitted with a highly sought-after Hinks & Sons No. 2 oil burner, paired with a striking royal blue porcelain font and a matching blue glass shade. These distinctive elements highlight the lamp’s superior craftsmanship and innovative design.

The finely sculpted body reflects the clean lines and symmetry that defined the Neo-Classical movement, while its original ormolu gilding adds a radiant allure. As both a decorative centrepiece and a practical object, this lamp is as functional as it is visually captivating.

The Neo-Classical movement, inspired by the art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, flourished across Europe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This design philosophy influenced everything from interiors to furniture and lighting, with an emphasis on balance, harmony, and timeless elegance. The use of gilt bronze, or ormolu, became particularly popular, reflecting wealth and refinement.

Hinks & Sons, a highly respected British manufacturer, revolutionised oil lamp technology in the 19th century. Their No. 2 oil burner, renowned for its efficiency and reliability, set a benchmark for quality in lighting design. Lamps of this calibre were prized not only for their practicality but also as symbols of taste and prestige, gracing the homes of the affluent.
