This striking antique silver-plated table lamp, stamped H.E & Co EP, is a fine example of British craftsmanship, likely produced by Henry Wilkinson & Co., one of Sheffield's most respected silversmiths known for their high-quality electroplated wares.
Dating to circa 1900, the lamp showcases the Corinthian column design, a neoclassical motif that gained immense popularity during the 19th century and continued into the Edwardian era. The Corinthian capital—distinguished by its ornate acanthus leaf detail—crowns the fluted shaft, which leads down to a stepped square base with reeded detailing, offering architectural balance and decorative finesse.
Originally created as an oil lamp or decorative piece, this lamp has since been professionally converted for electric use, making it suitable for modern interiors while preserving its historical charm. It has been fully rewired to UK standards, PAT tested, and fitted with British-made components, ensuring both safety and authenticity.
The lamp’s design reflects the Victorian and Edwardian eras' admiration for classical antiquity, making it a timeless addition to both period and contemporary interiors—ideal for use on desks, side tables, or as a statement lamp in elegant living spaces.
This antique silver-plated table lamp is in very good condition, considering its age (circa 1900). The silver plating remains largely intact with a rich, even patina that highlights its intricate Corinthian column details. There are minor surface marks and light wear consistent with normal use and age, but no significant dents, scratches, or corrosion are present.
The fluted shaft and stepped square base show well-preserved detailing with no structural damage. The lamp has been professionally rewired to modern UK electrical standards, including PAT testing, and fitted with high-quality British-made components to ensure safe, reliable use. The conversion to electric maintains the lamp’s original aesthetic and functionality without compromising its historical integrity.
