A magnificent and highly desirable crown pendant light, expertly crafted in solid brass during the late 19th century.
This imposing fixture embodies the opulence and high quality characteristic of the period. Its design draws heavily from the Grand Tour aesthetic, likely referencing regal European headwear or architectural coronas, making it a spectacular statement piece for an entryway, boudoir, or dining space.
The main body is executed in heavy, solid brass, stamped with the mark '0285 GB', indicating high-quality British manufacture. The brass has developed a beautiful, naturally aged patina, adding depth and authenticity to the piece.
The distinctive crown silhouette features intricate, finely stamped detailing. The upper band is adorned with a repeating pattern of stylised Acanthus leaves and palmettes, a classic motif borrowed from classical architecture, lending the piece a robust, architectural presence.
Suspended below the crown are numerous high-quality, faceted crystal drops. Each drop is composed of a brilliant-cut upper rosette leading to a substantial, prismatic pendant. The glass is hand-cut with precise geometric patterns (likely thumb-print and diamond-cut facets), terminating in a sharp, multifaceted point (a 'spear' or 'icicle' drop), ensuring maximum light refraction and sparkle.
A highly decorative and scarce lighting fixture that transcends its function to become a sculptural object. The combination of the warm, heavy brass and the scintillating cut crystal creates a luxurious effect, perfect for a collector seeking a piece with both historical integrity and undeniable visual impact. This is a very fine example of period lighting.
Excellent. The fixture is structurally sound, highly stable, and presents beautifully. All components are original to the fixture with the exception of the electrical wiring, which has been professionally updated for modern use and safety.
