A masterful table lamp, meticulously carved from solid wood in the Neoclassical "Grand Tour" tradition. This piece is a triumph of traditional woodcarving, featuring a central fluted Doric column flanked by two alert, recumbent lions. The entire composition is set upon an architectural octagonal base.
The lamp is finished in a sophisticated combination of hand-applied gold leaf and a distressed faux-porphyry painted base. The carving of the lions is particularly fine, showing muscular definition and expressive detail that is only achievable through hand-tooling. This is a decorative piece of art that brings a sense of historical weight and "Old World" luxury to a contemporary interior.

Drawing inspiration from the 19th-century fascination with antiquity, this lamp evokes the scholarly grandeur of the Grand Tour. The lion, a perennial symbol of nobility, paired with the fluted column of classical architecture, was a favorite motif of the Regency and Empire periods. Being carved from wood, this piece follows the heritage of fine English and European cabinetry, where light was treated as an extension of the room's architecture.
Excellent Decorative Condition. The carved wood lamp is structurally perfect with no splits or shrinkage. The gilt finish and faux-porphyry base have been expertly distressed by hand to simulate a centuries-old patina. Electrical components are modern and have been completely rewired and safety tested.
Note on Lampshade: The lampshade pictured is available to purchase separately from Shackleton Fox. This lamp is shown with a Medium (17.5cm top x 23cm height x 35cm bottom), a size specifically designed to harmonize with the substantial proportions.
