James Deakin & Sons Antique Silver Plate Table Lamp
James Deakin & Sons Antique Silver Plate Table Lamp is a stunning piece that would have originally served as a center piece.
This exquisite lamp is adorned with intricate decorations of three griffins, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.
The lamp is stamped with the mark of the renowned firm, which was founded in Sheffield by James Deakin in 1866.
The first mark entered by the firm in the Sheffield Assay Office in 1878 featured the initials "JD" over "WD," possibly symbolizing the partnership between James Deakin and his son William Pitchford Deakin.
Over the years, the firm expanded its operations, with additional marks entered in the London Assay Office, Chester, and Birmingham. The partnership grew with the inclusion of two more sons, John Deakin and Albert Deakin, leading to the firm being known as James Deakin & Sons.
The business flourished, opening subsidiary offices and showrooms in London, Glasgow, and Belfast. After James Deakin's retirement in 1893, his sons William, John, and Albert continued the legacy. The firm was eventually converted into a limited liability company in 1897, under the name James Deakin & Sons Ltd., solidifying its reputation for producing high-quality silver plate items like this exquisite table lamp.
