A superb and impressively scaled large cut-glass table lamp, fashioned in the manner of the grand Corinthian column lamps popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This example exhibits exceptional craftsmanship, with a hand-cut spiral-rib glass shaft of remarkable clarity and weight, rising elegantly from a stepped brass plinth.
The upper capital is executed in the full Corinthian order, richly cast with acanthus leaves, volutes and crisp architectural detailing, all finished in a warm gilt brass. This decorative language echoes the neoclassical revival tastes embraced by leading English interior designers and lamp makers of the Edwardian period, who drew inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman architecture.
The lamp’s unusually tall and imposing proportions lend it a commanding presence, making it particularly well suited to a grand drawing room, library or entrance hall. Its classical form ensures it sits comfortably among both traditional and transitional interiors.
The spiral-ribbed glass column cut with impeccable precision catches and refracts the light beautifully, lending the piece a jewel-like quality even when unlit. The lamp is fitted with quality brass mountings throughout and retains a period-style cord.
A handsome and decorative statement piece of excellent quality, reflecting the enduring appeal of neoclassical design.
This large cut-glass Corinthian column table lamp is in excellent overall condition. The spiral-rib glass shaft is clear and undamaged, and the gilt brass mounts display only light, sympathetic ageing. The lamp has been professionally cleaned, fully rewired, and PAT-inspected, using high-quality British-made electrical components to ensure safety and reliability. It stands securely and is ready for immediate use.
