This exquisite table lamp features an elegant white opaline column with intricate Ionic detailing, crowned by a magnificent Ionic top. The lamp stands on a classical stepped brass base, thoughtfully weighted for stability, ensuring it remains securely in place. Originally an oil lamp, it has since been expertly converted to electricity.
Dating back to the 19th century, this lamp is a prime example of ancient Greek architectural design. The Ionic style, renowned for its scroll-like volutes and slender columns, is one of the three canonical orders of classical architecture, alongside the Corinthian and Doric styles.
The history of the Ionic order dates back to the mid-6th century BCE, originating in Ionia, an ancient region on the central coast of present-day Turkey. This style became popular for its decorative and elegant features, often used in temples and monuments, symbolizing grace and beauty. The Ionic columns are characterised by their proportions and the intricate volutes on their capitals.
This particular lamp, with its impressive oversized design, makes a striking addition to both traditional and modern interiors. The white opaline column brings a fresh, clean aesthetic that enhances any setting.
This antique table lamp is in very good condition, as shown in the accompanying images.
The lamp has been fully rewired with antique-style 3 core braided fabric cable.
The lamp has passed a PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) inspection, ensuring it meets electrical safety standards.
