Antique Engravings The Sportsman's Pocket Companion James Roberts

Two 19th Century Engravings "The Sportsman's Pocket Companion" by James Roberts and engraved by exquisite Antique French Reliquaire is a stunning testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of its time, embodying both historical significance and aesthetic beauty. Crafted from rich, aged wood and adorned with intricate metalwork, this reliquary features delicate carvings that depict religious motifs, showcasing the reverence and devotion of its original purpose. The interior is lined with sumptuous velvet, providing a luxurious backdrop for the sacred relics it was designed to house. Measuring approximately 12 inches in height, this piece is not only a striking decorative item but also a conversation starter, inviting admiration for its rich history and the stories it holds. Ideal for collectors of religious artifacts or those with an appreciation for antique decor, this reliquaire serves as a unique focal point in any setting, blending seamlessly with both traditional and contemporary interiors.

These two prints come from a collection of forty engravings after the work of James Roberts and engraved by Henry Roberts entitled "The Sportsman's Pocket Companion" published around 1760. Though the horses were drawn by James Roberts, they were likely after other paintings and prints of famous racehorses. The majority of the horses represented in the prints raced between 1708-1755.
