This authentic antique Stick Stand is a beautifully proportioned piece of Victorian domestic ironware, perfectly sized and styled for an elegant fireplace setting or a formal entryway. Crafted from heavy cast iron, its substantial weight ensures stability, while its delicate proportions and design make it suitable for lighter implements.
This stand is ideally suited for holding fireside implements (pokers, tongs, brushes) or a collection of walking sticks/canes. Its design is too refined and its base too narrow for the heavy, dripping wet umbrellas typically associated with hall stands.
Constructed from robust cast iron, the stand features a central column rising from a decorative, heavy base. The dark, textured finish provides a classic, timeless look that beautifully complements a hearth.
The wide, ornate base is sculpted in a Naturalistic or Rustic Revival style, showcasing finely detailed leaves (vines were a popular motif for wealth and hospitality), highlighted by a charming central bird motif (likely a finch or sparrow). This celebration of the natural world was highly characteristic of high-quality Victorian decorative arts.
The stand features a heavy base that acts as a drip catcher for residual moisture (from a damp floor brush, for example) and a high upper rail with simple knobs to keep sticks neatly separated and upright.
This stand is presented in excellent antique condition and remains fully structurally sound, consistent with its durable material and age (c. 1880–1910).
Made of heavy, robust cast iron. The finish is a dark, matte, textured paint or patina that gives it a rustic appearance. A sturdy, well-preserved piece of domestic metalwork that is ready for immediate use.
