An exquisite pair of late Victorian mechanical folding cards, expertly curated and framed as high-color graphic art. Produced by the prestigious firm Emrik & Binger, these works represent the pinnacle of 1890s "paper engineering," utilizing the chromolithograph process to achieve a painterly depth and vibrancy that remains luminous today.
The Collection Includes:
The Swan Triptych: A serene, three-part study of swans. This folding mechanism was designed to create a panoramic effect, celebrating the Victorian symbol of fidelity and grace.
The Birds of Paradise (Flamingos): A flamboyant and exotic composition. During the 1890s, such "Birds of Paradise" were prized for bringing a touch of the tropics and the exotic into the English domestic sphere.
Chromolithography Excellence: Known for their high-quality oil-based inks, Emrik & Binger’s work is characterized by saturated pinks and subtle, layered tonalities that have resisted fading for over a century.
Premium Presentation: Both pieces have been professionally secured in acid-free mounts within new, contemporary ebony-style frames. This mounting stabilizes the historic folds and transforms delicate ephemera into a substantial pair of gallery-ready artworks.
"Finding these as a thematic set is a real treat. Emrik & Binger were the masters of 'Paper Engineering,' and these avian studies are perfect examples of their craft. The contrast between the cool, serene swans and the flamboyant pink flamingos makes for a stunning visual pairing. By framing them in modern ebony-style frames, we’ve taken them out of the Victorian parlor and made them into sophisticated, high-color graphic art for a contemporary interior."
Good Antique Condition. These were interactive objects designed to be opened and closed; their survival is a testament to their quality.
The pinks of the flamingos and the subtle tones of the swans are exceptionally well-preserved, benefiting from the high-quality oil-based inks used by Emrik & Binger.
Professionally secured in acid-free mounts within new ebony-style frames. The mounting ensures the folds stay stable and protected from further handling.
