Additional Information
Elegant Early 20th Century Faceted Glass Hall Lantern with Original Brass Mounts

A finely made early 20th century faceted glass hall lantern, of particularly elegant geometric form, complete with its original cast brass mounts and suspension chain. This beautifully proportioned lantern demonstrates the refined taste of the Edwardian and early interwar period, where classical restraint evolved into subtly modern forms.

The body is crafted from clear, hand-moulded glass formed into twelve crisp, faceted panels, creating a jewel-like silhouette that catches and refracts the light with great clarity. The faceting gives the lantern presence even when unlit, lending depth and architectural definition to the design.

The original pierced brass gallery—with its alternating openwork apertures—retains a warm, naturally aged patina. The detailing is confidently executed, with scalloped edges, turned finials, and a well-drilled internal collar for the fitting. The lower terminal features a finely cast foliate knop, a decorative flourish typical of quality early 20th century lighting.

Lanterns of this type were traditionally hung in entrance halls, stairwells, or covered porches of well-appointed Edwardian and early Georgian-revival houses. Their versatility makes them equally suitable today for both period and contemporary interiors, offering a clean architectural line while preserving a sense of historic craftsmanship.

This example remains complete, well-balanced in form, and retains excellent clarity to the glass, making it a particularly successful and decorative specimen.

Condition Report

The lantern has been fully rewired and PAT-tested using high-quality British-made components, and is ready for immediate installation. It is offered complete with its ceiling rose, providing a fully finished and period-appropriate presentation.

The glass is entirely original, retaining excellent clarity and the expected small manufacturing specks and flaws characteristic of early 20th-century hand-formed glass. No cracks or structural losses.

The brass mounts show a pleasing, naturally aged patina with minor surface wear and tarnish commensurate with age. The lantern is structurally sound and displays beautifully.
