A grand and luminous 19th-century table lamp, featuring a large-scale opaline glass column. Dating to circa 1870, this piece exemplifies the Victorian fascination with "Grecian" revival forms. The tapered glass shaft—celebrated for its soft, milky translucency—is crowned with a finely cast brass Corinthian capital, intricately detailed with acanthus leaves.
Supported by a heavy, tiered brass base, this lamp was originally a high-status oil lamp before being sympathetically converted for modern use. The opaline glass offers a unique aesthetic advantage: it captures and subtly glows with ambient light even when the lamp is switched off. With its impressive 58 cm height and significant weight, it is a sophisticated anchor for a grand library desk or a master bedroom suite.
This lamp is in excellent working condition, offering both functionality and style for any space.
Fully rewired to ensure optimal performance. The lamp includes a 3-core braided fabric cable, lamp holder, and a UK 3-pin plug. Additionally, it has undergone a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) inspection, guaranteeing its safety and compliance with electrical standards.
