A monumental 19th-century table lamp designed as a classical Corinthian column. This fine example features a pristine white marble shaft culminating in a richly chased ormolu (gilt-bronze) capital adorned with traditional acanthus leaves. The column is supported by a tiered plinth of figured marble and polished brass, offering a substantial and luxurious silhouette.
Originally an oil lamp from a prestigious Victorian-era household, it has been sympathetically converted for modern electrical use. The marriage of cool marble and radiant gilding reflects the 19th-century obsession with the "Grand Tour" and classical antiquity. Its height (58 cm) and significant weight make it an ideal statement piece for a grand sideboard, library desk, or console table.
This lamp is in excellent working condition.
Fully rewired to ensure optimal performance. The lamp includes a 3-core braided fabric cable, lamp holder, and a UK 3-pin plug. Additionally, it has undergone a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) inspection, guaranteeing its safety and compliance with electrical standards.
