An elegant mid-century carved alabaster table lamp, showcasing the natural beauty of Italian stone in a refined neoclassical form. Defined by its clean architectural lines and sculptural simplicity, this piece embodies understated luxury and timeless design.
The lamp features a finely proportioned urn-shaped column rising from a stepped circular plinth base. Its minimalist silhouette allows the natural characteristics of the alabaster to take centre stage, revealing soft milky-white tones enriched with delicate veins of amber, cream and subtle translucency throughout the stone.
When illuminated, the alabaster gently diffuses light through its structure, creating a soft, atmospheric glow. This natural luminosity enhances its sculptural presence and makes it equally suited to both contemporary minimalist interiors and more traditional decorative schemes.
Its versatile design allows it to function as a statement accent on a console, bedside table or sideboard, offering both decorative impact and ambient lighting.
As shown in the listing photography, this lamp is paired with a Shackleton Fox linen pleated shade, which complements its soft tones and elegant proportions. Please note that the shade is not included but is available separately from our curated lighting collection.
Hand-carved and polished solid alabaster stone with a smooth satin finish.
The surface highlights the natural translucency and organic veining unique to genuine Italian alabaster, making each piece entirely individual.
Italy (likely Volterra, Tuscany)
Neoclassical Revival / Mid-Century Modern
Mid-20th Century (circa 1950–1970)
Alabaster has been valued since antiquity for its soft translucency and marble-like appearance. Italian workshops, particularly in Volterra, have produced fine carved alabaster objects for centuries.
During the mid-20th century, Italian designers moved away from heavy ornamentation in favour of clean, architectural forms that complemented modern interiors. This resulted in a generation of refined alabaster lighting that combined classical materials with minimalist design principles.
Today, vintage alabaster lamps are highly sought after for their ability to introduce warmth, texture and sculptural elegance into both contemporary and period interiors.
Excellent vintage condition.
The alabaster body is well-preserved, with a smooth, even finish and naturally occurring veining consistent with genuine stone. As a natural material, minor internal variations are present and enhance the individuality of the piece.
The lamp has been fully professionally restored in our workshop. It has been completely rewired using high-quality braided silk flex, fitted with a new solid brass bulb holder, and fully PAT tested to modern UK electrical safety standards. It is safe and ready for immediate use when installed by a qualified electrician.
