A refined and architecturally sophisticated French hexagonal hall lantern from the renowned Parisian workshop of Petitot. This piece exemplifies the transition between late 19th-century classicism and the cleaner, more geometric lines of the early 20th-century French aesthetic.
The lantern features:
Maker’s Attribution: Clearly stamped with the PETITOT maker’s mark, a signature of high-tier Parisian lighting manufacture known for superior brasswork.
Hexagonal Form: A balanced six-sided frame crafted in heavy gilt brass, featuring crisp corner uprights and subtle molded detailing to the canopy and base.
Bevelled Glazing: Each of the six panels is fitted with original, thick bevelled glass. These chamfered edges act as prisms, catching and diffusing the light to create a soft, welcoming glow.
Superior Finish: The gilt brass retains a mellowed, authentic patina that highlights the quality of the original casting without the over-bright appearance of modern reproductions.
Ready for Installation: Professionally restored, rewired to modern British standards, and PAT-tested, complete with its original matching chain and ceiling rose.
“This is a well-proportioned and elegant French hall lantern. The quality of the brasswork and the bevelled glass are immediately apparent, and the presence of the Petitot stamp adds genuine authenticity and desirability. A timeless and versatile piece.”
The lantern has been fully rewired and PAT-tested using high-quality British-made components, and is ready for immediate installation.
The glass is entirely original, retaining excellent clarity
