An exceptional and rare pair of French 19th-century candelabra by the celebrated sculptor James Pradier (1790–1852). These pieces showcase Pradier’s unique ability to translate neoclassical elegance into the botanical world. Cast in heavy bronze, the design features organic stems that "grow" from architectural black marble plinths, blossoming into six finely chased candle arms.

These pieces showcase Pradier’s unique ability to translate neoclassical elegance into the botanical world. Cast in heavy bronze, the design features organic stems that "grow" from architectural black marble plinths, blossoming into six finely chased candle arms.
The bronze is finished using the laborious "cold-painting" technique, providing a subtle, multi-tonal depth that far exceeds standard patination. Each nozzle is accented with gilt-rimmed detailing, creating a luminous contrast against the dark, naturalistic bronze. Pradier’s work is held in major institutions like the Louvre; to find a pair of his functional decorative bronzes in such pristine, un-restored condition is a rare opportunity for the serious collector of French Romantic art.
This exceptional pair of 19th-century cold-painted bronze candelabras is presented in excellent condition, showing only light, age-appropriate wear consistent with their period.
The cold-painted surface retains a rich, even patina with minimal rubbing. The painted finish remains stable, with only the slightest surface wear visible under close inspection.
The gilded rims of the candle holders are well-preserved, with bright gold highlights still evident and only minor softening from use.
The botanical modeling of leaves, stems, and buds remains sharp and crisp, with no losses or repairs detected.
The black marble plinths are in excellent condition, with natural veining intact. No chips, cracks, or structural repairs are evident.
Both candelabras stand firm and level. All candle sockets are secure and original.
An unusually well-preserved pair, with original finish and gilding substantially intact. Their superb condition enhances both their rarity and desirability for collectors.
