Additional Information
A Pair of Victorian Anatomical Studies: The Human Skeleton (c. 1870)

This is a rare and striking pair of mid-Victorian color lithographs, offering a comprehensive masterclass in human anatomy. Produced circa 1870, these prints represent the Anterior (Front) and Posterior (Back) views of the skeletal system.

Unlike modern medical charts, these 19th-century lithographs were designed with an artistic sensibility, using a subtle palette of bone-whites and soft ochres to give the figures a sculptural, three-dimensional presence. Selling as a pair, they offer a perfect balance of scientific precision and decorative "Cabinet of Curiosities" appeal.

Dealer’s Comments

"Anatomical prints are always popular, but finding a matched pair in this large-scale format is significantly harder. By framing the Front and Back views in identical ebony-style frames, we've created a ready-made 'feature wall.' The historical creases tell the story of these prints being used in a Victorian medical setting—they aren't just decorations; they are artifacts. This pair is the perfect choice for an interior designer looking to add an intellectual, 'Dark Academia' edge to a project."

Condition Report

Good Antique Condition. This pair carries a genuine "scientific library" patina, showing honest evidence of their historical use.

Both prints feature notable historical crease marks (likely original center-folds from a large-scale anatomical atlas). These have been professionally flattened but remain visible, adding a layer of authentic "documentary" character to the pair.

The paper has aged to a beautiful, uniform cream tone. There are minor handling marks and light, scattered foxing, consistent with the age of the lithographic stone process.

The prints are structurally sound and have been secured in their frames to prevent any further stress on the old fold lines.
