Albany Slip is a naturally occurring clay, originally sourced near Albany, New York, that was widely used as a glaze on stoneware during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Renowned for its rich chocolate-brown colour and smooth, glossy finish, it was particularly popular on utilitarian pottery such as crocks, jugs, bottles and storage jars. Although natural Albany Slip is no longer commercially available, original examples remain highly collectable for their historical significance and distinctive appearance.
