An alms dish is a large decorative dish originally used in churches to collect charitable donations during religious services. Traditionally made from brass, bronze or pewter, many examples feature repoussé decoration, biblical scenes, coats of arms or floral motifs. Antique alms dishes are now prized as decorative wall hangings and collectors\' pieces.
