Gimbal Compass is a navigational compass mounted within a pair of pivoting rings, known as gimbals, allowing it to remain level despite the movement of a ship. Used extensively aboard naval and merchant vessels from the eighteenth century onwards, antique gimbal compasses are admired for their precision engineering, maritime heritage and decorative appeal.
