A Hearth Fender is a protective metal guard positioned around the edge of a fireplace hearth to contain fuel, prevent sparks from escaping and define the fireside area. Antique hearth fenders were commonly made from polished brass, wrought iron or steel, often incorporating upholstered seats or decorative galleries. They remain highly sought after for both their practicality and period charm.
