A distinctive pair of mid-century turned wood table lamps, thoughtfully created in the Shackleton Fox workshop from a carefully matched pair of vintage wooden vases. Combining sculptural craftsmanship with considered contemporary functionality, these bespoke conversions celebrate the natural beauty of timber and the enduring appeal of mid-century design.
The original wooden vessels feature an attractive series of deeply turned horizontal bands, creating a rhythmic, architectural profile. Their warm honey-brown colouring, beautifully figured natural grain and gently tapering cylindrical forms give each lamp an individual character, while their closely matched proportions make them particularly appealing as a pair.
The vases have been sympathetically converted into table lamps in our Lincolnshire workshop, preserving their original decorative form while introducing polished brass fittings. Each lamp features a slender brass stem rising from a recessed brass-finished inset, providing an elegant contrast to the warmth and texture of the timber.
The combination of richly grained wood, sculptural ribbed detailing and polished brass lends the lamps a timeless quality, making them equally suited to traditional country house interiors and contemporary spaces.
Standing 40 cm high without their lampshades, the lamps have a slender footprint of just 12 cm, making them particularly suitable for bedside tables, console tables, sideboards or occasional tables.
Both lamps have been individually converted in the Shackleton Fox workshop from vintage turned wooden vases, using polished brass electrical fittings and fabric-covered flex.
The original wooden surfaces retain their attractive natural grain, with subtle variations in colour, texture and finish consistent with their age and previous use.
As bespoke conversions from vintage objects, minor differences between the two lamps are part of their individual character.
