A striking antique brass hanging lantern featuring a richly coloured cranberry glass shade with decorative diamond detailing, enclosed within an elegant brass framework. Its cylindrical form, pierced gallery and domed canopy combine to create a distinctive piece of period lighting with considerable decorative appeal.
The lantern features a beautifully coloured cranberry glass cylinder, displaying a deep ruby-red tone that catches and reflects the light through its richly textured, faceted surface. The diamond-patterned glass creates an attractive interplay of colour and light, while the polished brass framework provides a warm contrast to the vibrant glass.
Above the shade, an intricately pierced brass gallery incorporates a repeating arrangement of oval openings and geometric detailing, lending the lantern a refined architectural quality. A broad, stepped domed canopy completes the upper section, while slender vertical brass supports secure the glass within the framework and connect to the circular lower rim.
Suspended from a brass chain with traditional-style fabric-covered flex, the lantern has an elegant, elongated silhouette that would complement a country house entrance hall, traditional hallway, staircase or richly layered interior.
The lantern has been carefully cleaned and polished in our Shackleton Fox workshop, preserving its original decorative character while enhancing the natural warmth of the brass.
It has been fully rewired for UK use and electrically tested, ready for professional installation. The brass metalwork displays minor surface marks and variations in finish consistent with age and previous use.
The cranberry glass retains its rich ruby-red colour and decorative faceted surface, providing a beautiful contrast against the polished brass framework.
Every item offered by Shackleton Fox is carefully inspected, prepared, and where necessary conserved within our workshop prior to sale.
As heritage craftsmen and antique specialists, we believe in preserving the authenticity and integrity of each piece. Original finishes, patina, wear, and signs of age are retained wherever possible, as these elements contribute to both character and historical significance.
When restoration, rewiring, repairs, or conservation work is required, it is undertaken sympathetically using traditional techniques and materials appropriate to the period of the piece. Our philosophy is one of careful stewardship rather than unnecessary restoration, ensuring antiques remain both functional and historically respectful.
The result is a collection of pieces that have been thoughtfully prepared, allowing future owners to enjoy them with confidence while preserving their unique story and character.
