An adjustable standard lamp is a freestanding floor lamp designed with a movable stem, arm or shade, allowing the direction and height of the light to be altered. Popular from the late nineteenth century onwards, adjustable standard lamps were commonly used in libraries, studies and reading rooms where focused illumination was required. Antique examples were crafted from brass, bronze, cast iron and wood, combining practical functionality with elegant period design. Professionally restored and rewired examples remain highly sought after for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
