Anchor Escapement

The anchor escapement is a mechanical device used in pendulum clocks to regulate the release of energy from the clock\'s gear train. Developed during the late seventeenth century, it greatly improved accuracy compared with earlier verge escapements and became the standard mechanism in many longcase, bracket and wall clocks.
