A Cameo is a carved decorative object featuring a raised relief image, traditionally depicting portraits, classical figures or mythological scenes against a contrasting background. Cameos have been produced since Classical Antiquity using shell, agate, sardonyx, coral, lava and glass. During the Georgian and Victorian periods they became fashionable as jewellery, decorative plaques and objets d\'art, admired for their fine craftsmanship and timeless elegance.
