Early Georgian

Early Georgian refers to the earliest phase of the Georgian period, spanning approximately 1714 to 1760 during the reigns of George I and George II. Influenced by Palladian architecture and classical ideals, the style is characterised by symmetry, restrained ornamentation, elegant proportions and exceptional craftsmanship. Furniture from the Early Georgian period commonly features walnut, solid oak and the emerging use of mahogany, with cabriole legs and finely carved details. *Related Terms*\ Georgian, Georgian Furniture, Palladianism, Queen Anne, Rococo.
