Eastlake Style is a decorative movement inspired by the writings of British designer Charles Eastlake, promoting honest craftsmanship, restrained ornament and functional design. Popular between 1870 and 1890, Eastlake furniture is recognised by its angular forms, incised carving, geometric decoration and turned details. Although associated with the Aesthetic Movement, the style avoided excessive Victorian ornamentation. *Related Terms*\ Aesthetic Movement, Arts & Crafts, Charles Eastlake, Victorian Furniture, Walnut Furniture.
