Fire Fender is a decorative barrier positioned around the front of a fireplace to help contain fuel and provide a protective boundary around the hearth. Traditionally crafted from brass, wrought iron or steel, antique fire fenders range from simple Victorian examples to elaborate pierced and engraved designs. They remain popular features in period fireplaces.
