Henri II Style is a French Revival style inspired by the furniture and architecture of the reign of King Henry II of France (1547--1559). Popular during the nineteenth century, particularly under the Second Empire, Henri II furniture is characterised by robust oak construction, richly carved ornament, strapwork, columns, caryatids and Renaissance-inspired detailing. The style was widely used for dining room and library furniture, reflecting a sense of grandeur and historical prestige.
