Wirework describes objects and structures made principally from metal wire that has been bent, twisted, woven, looped or joined to create functional or decorative forms. Within antiques, wirework encompasses an exceptionally broad range of objects, from domestic baskets and kitchen equipment to garden furniture, plant stands, architectural pieces and decorative objects.
The apparent simplicity of wire can disguise considerable craftsmanship. Complex objects could be constructed from numerous individual lengths of wire carefully shaped and joined to create strong yet visually lightweight structures.
