The cast brass backplate is ornamented with subtle foliate relief, integral to the structure rather than applied, a key characteristic of Art Nouveau decorative philosophy. The adjustable arm and pivoting gallery demonstrate the period’s embrace of modernity and practicality, allowing the light to be precisely directed for use as a picture or task light.
The fluted bell-shaped glass shade, with its gently beaded rim, is entirely consistent with turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau lighting, designed to diffuse light evenly and create a warm, atmospheric glow rather than sharp brilliance. Very good antique condition. The brass retains an attractive warm patina with minor surface wear consistent with age. The glass shade is in excellent condition with no visible chips or cracks. Rewired for modern use while preserving original components.
