An elegant antique English solid brass Corinthian column table lamp of classical form, dating from the 19th century, inspired by the architectural grandeur of Ancient Greece and the refined neoclassical designs popularised during the Georgian and Regency periods.
The lamp is centred around a beautifully fluted Corinthian column, rising from a substantial stepped square plinth, while the finely cast capital is richly decorated with crisp acanthus leaves, scrolling volutes and classical ornamentation. The proportions are exceptionally well balanced, allowing the lamp to retain a refined architectural presence without appearing overly ornate.
Crafted from solid brass throughout, the lamp has acquired a warm golden patina that beautifully highlights the crisp casting and finely fluted shaft. The substantial stepped base provides excellent stability while echoing the architectural form of a monumental temple column.
Professionally rewired using traditional braided cable and fitted with a quality brass BC lamp holder, the lamp is fully functional and ready for use. It is shown here with one of our handmade pleated linen shades, available separately.
Whether displayed individually on a desk, library table, bedside cabinet or console, this handsome Corinthian lamp brings timeless classical elegance to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Please note: The lampshade shown is for display purposes only and is not included in the sale. It can be purchased separately directly from Shackleton Fox. This lamp is shown with our Medium Empire Lampshade – Ecru with Stucco, handmade in the UK.
The Corinthian column is the most elaborate of the three principal classical architectural orders, first developed in Ancient Greece before becoming widely adopted by the Romans. Distinguished by richly carved acanthus leaf capitals, Corinthian columns became enduring symbols of refinement, learning and architectural grandeur.
During the Georgian, Regency and Victorian periods, classical architecture heavily influenced British decorative arts. By the early twentieth century, high-quality brass lamps modelled as miniature Corinthian columns had become highly desirable additions to libraries, studies and drawing rooms, combining practical lighting with timeless architectural design.
Their elegant proportions ensured they remained fashionable throughout the twentieth century and continue to complement both antique and contemporary interiors today.
This lamp has been exceptionally well made from solid brass using traditional casting and precision machining techniques.
The beautifully cast Corinthian capital displays remarkable detail, with crisp acanthus leaves, scrolling volutes and finely textured ornament that demonstrate the quality of manufacture. The column itself is deeply fluted, producing elegant vertical lines that naturally draw the eye upwards towards the capital.
The heavy stepped plinth has been carefully engineered to provide both visual balance and excellent stability, while the entire lamp has been polished to a warm mellow sheen without losing its antique character.
Professionally rewired with traditional braided flex and fitted with a brass lamp holder, it is ready for many more decades of use.
Few lamp designs possess the timeless elegance of the Corinthian column.
Its architectural silhouette works beautifully within Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Edwardian and modern classic interiors alike. The restrained brass finish allows the intricate capital to become the focal point, while the clean fluted shaft introduces height and proportion without overwhelming surrounding furnishings.
Equally suited to a library, study, entrance hall, bedside table or drawing room, this lamp offers understated sophistication whether illuminated or displayed as an architectural object.
Paired with one of our handmade pleated linen shades, it creates a wonderfully warm and refined lighting effect.

As heritage craftsmen and antique specialists, we believe in preserving the authenticity and integrity of each piece. Original finishes, patina, wear, and signs of age are retained wherever possible, as these elements contribute to both character and historical significance.
When restoration, rewiring, repairs, or conservation work is required, it is undertaken sympathetically using traditional techniques and materials appropriate to the period of the piece. Our philosophy is one of careful stewardship rather than unnecessary restoration, ensuring antiques remain both functional and historically respectful.
The result is a collection of pieces that have been thoughtfully prepared, allowing future owners to enjoy them with confidence while preserving their unique story and character.
