Bargeware is a highly decorative form of Victorian pottery traditionally associated with the narrowboats and canal barges of nineteenth-century Britain. Typically produced in rich brown glazed earthenware and embellished with colourful floral sprigs, applied relief decoration and personalised inscriptions, bargeware includes teapots, tobacco jars, water jugs and domestic wares. Originally made for use aboard working canal boats, antique bargeware is now highly collectable for its folk-art charm and distinctive craftsmanship.
