Bauhaus is an influential German design movement founded in 1919 by architect Walter Gropius, promoting the integration of art, craftsmanship and modern industrial production. Bauhaus design is characterised by clean lines, geometric forms, functional simplicity and the honest use of materials such as steel, glass and tubular metal. Although fundamentally modern, Bauhaus principles transformed furniture, lighting, architecture and interior design, influencing generations of designers throughout the twentieth century and beyond.
