Directoire

Directoire is a French decorative style that developed during the period of the French Directory between 1795 and 1799, bridging the transition between the Louis XVI and Empire styles. Influenced by Neo-Classical ideals, Directoire furniture is characterised by elegant proportions, restrained ornamentation, tapered legs and classical motifs inspired by Ancient Greece and Rome. Antique Directoire pieces are admired for their refined simplicity and sophisticated craftsmanship. *Related Terms*\ Empire Style, French Furniture, Louis XVI, Neo-Classicism, Tapered Leg.
