Fresco is a traditional mural painting technique in which pigments are applied directly onto freshly laid lime plaster, allowing the colours to become permanently bonded as the plaster dries. Widely used throughout the Renaissance and earlier periods, frescoes decorate churches, palaces and public buildings, and are celebrated for their durability, scale and artistic significance.
