Grain Painting, also known as Faux Graining, is a decorative technique that imitates the appearance of fine wood using paint. Popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods, grain painting allowed inexpensive timbers to resemble expensive woods such as oak, walnut or mahogany. Well-executed antique examples are valued as important examples of traditional decorative craftsmanship.
