A Hurricane Lamp is a lamp designed with a protective glass chimney or shade that shields the flame from wind and drafts, allowing it to burn steadily. Originally fuelled by oil or kerosene, antique hurricane lamps were widely used in homes before the widespread adoption of electricity. Many surviving examples have since been professionally converted for safe electric use while retaining their original appearance.
