William Morris

William Morris (1834–1896) was one of the most influential British designers, writers and thinkers of the nineteenth century and a central figure in the development of the Arts and Crafts Movement. His ideas about craftsmanship, materials and the relationship between art and everyday life had a profound influence on British furniture, textiles, wallpaper, interiors and decorative design.

Morris rejected many of the effects he associated with poor-quality industrial mass production and advocated a renewed appreciation of traditional craftsmanship, thoughtful design and the inherent qualities of materials.
